Getting Started

How Zedlayby works

Whether you're a shopper looking for a layby plan, or a retailer wanting to reach more customers — here's everything you need to know to get going.

For Shoppers

1

Create a free account

Sign up with your phone number — it takes less than two minutes and it's completely free. You'll need your phone to verify your account.

2

Browse and compare plans

Search by product name, category or your town. Each listing shows you the deposit, monthly instalment, total cost and the length of the plan — so you can compare options clearly before you decide.

3

Apply with the retailer

When you find something you like, click Apply. You'll be asked to confirm the plan details. Once you submit, the retailer receives your application and will respond — usually within 24 hours.

You can apply to more than one retailer at the same time while you're deciding.

4

Review and sign your agreement

If the retailer approves your application, you'll receive a written agreement. Read it carefully — it shows your deposit amount, instalment schedule, what happens if you want to cancel, and your legal rights. Once you're happy, sign it to confirm.

Every agreement on Zedlayby is checked against Zambian law before you see it. Your rights are always clearly shown.
5

Make your payments

Pay your instalments directly to the retailer according to the agreed schedule. Your payment history is tracked on your dashboard so you always know where you stand.

You can pay off your balance early at any time — and you'll save money when you do.

6

Collect your item

Once you've paid in full, your layby is marked as complete. Contact the retailer to arrange collection. If you paid a deposit and decide you don't want the item, you have the right to cancel and get part of your money back under Zambian law.

For Retailers

1

Register your business

Sign up and select "I am a Retailer". You'll need your TPIN and PACRA registration number — this is how we confirm your business is legitimate. Once submitted, our team reviews your details and activates your account.

2

Set up your profile

Add your business logo, cover image, description, and contact details. Your public profile is the first thing shoppers see — a complete profile builds trust and gets more applications.

3

Add your products or services

List the items or services you offer on layby. For each one, set the cash price and create a layby plan — specifying the deposit, instalment amount and payment period. Zedlayby checks your plan against the legal requirements before it goes live.

4

Review and respond to applications

When a shopper applies, you'll see it in your dashboard. Review their details, then approve or decline. If you approve, a written agreement is generated automatically and sent to both parties.

5

Track payments

As your customer makes payments — whether in cash, mobile money or any other method — record them in the dashboard. Both you and the shopper can see the running balance at any time. Your dashboard also gives you an overview of all active laybys and upcoming payments.
