What Zedlayby is not
Not a lender
We do not lend money or extend credit. The layby agreement is always between you and the retailer directly.
Not a payment processor
We do not hold your money. Payments go directly to the retailer — we simply help track them.
Not a guarantee
Listing on Zedlayby does not guarantee a retailer's products or services. We verify registration and legal compliance — but you should always use your own judgement.
The problem we're solving
Layby is one of the most common ways Zambians buy big-ticket items. But for most shoppers, the experience is opaque — you rarely know the full cost, your cancellation rights, or whether the agreement you're signing is even legal.
For retailers, staying compliant with the Hire-Purchase Act (Cap 399) is complicated and time-consuming. Many small businesses simply don't have the resources to get it right — and that puts both them and their customers at risk.

Every agreement generated on the platform meets the requirements of the Hire-Purchase Act — including mandatory written terms, deposit limits, and instalment schedules.
We're growing steadily, with new retailers and listings added regularly across all provinces.
